Recorded in St. John’s, Newfoundland, Seascape is a testament to the power of collaboration and musical storytelling. Inspired by the rhythm and mystery of the ocean, the album embodies the spirit of exploration and the depth of jazz improvisation.
Beyond its breathtaking repertoire, Seascape is a meeting of musical minds and hearts. From the poignant lyricism of Norma Winstone to the dynamic interplay of Joe LaBarbera, every performance captures the essence of modern jazz at its finest.
LaBarbera says “I am so pleased that Jim Vivian reached out to invite me to be a part of this wonderful project. All the musicians in The Atlantic Jazz Collective are top shelf performers and we all got on so well which made this recording a joy from start to finish. We truly enjoyed making this music and now it’s your turn to enjoy it!”
Winstone adds “I have had a long association with Canadian jazz musicians. I met Mike Murley and Jim Vivian when Kenny Wheeler, John Taylor and I recorded with The Maritime Jazz Orchestra many years ago, so it was wonderful when Jim asked me to do a concert and a recording in St. John’s to renew old musical and personal friendships. A joy also to meet and play with Florian as well as the bonus of playing again with the wonderful Joe LaBarbera who I had met some years ago in Canada and subsequently recorded with for my album Well Kept Secret with Jimmy Rowles. I think it all went wonderfully, and I am looking forward to touring with the group.”
Crafted with a North American audience in mind and intended for global listeners, Seascape is more than just an album—it’s a bold artistic statement. This debut highlights lush arrangements, inspired improvisations, and pristine production, introducing the Atlantic Jazz Collective as a new and vital voice in jazz. A must-hear for seasoned enthusiasts and new listeners alike.
Seascape is the beginning of a journey you’ll want to follow.
